My next recital…
It’s been a busy time with performances, rehearsals, teaching and examining all vying for my time. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my duo pianist, Nico de Villiers once again, as we prepare for our next recital. It has also been a great delight to prepare and then observe my Guildhall students giving their final recitals, as well as to work with my private students as they prepare for various performances; external examining at Leeds and the end of my latest research project at the Guildhall have all served to make this term a highly stimulating one.
There will be more information on the research project in a later post, but it was a project in which I was fortunate enough to collaborate with actor, drama teacher extraordinaire and all-round inspiring human being, Dinah Stabb. We explored the three-way exchange between vocal, instrumental and drama expertise, focused around Clerambault’s dramatic cantata of 1710, Medee.
The next Melicus Duo recital is happening next week. It is entitled ‘Afternoon Delights: a Teatime concert’ and will take place on 11 July 2015 at 15:00 at St.Mary’s Church, Wedmore, Somerset, as part of Wedmore Arts Festival. I have sung in several Wedmore Opera productions over the years and have met the most wonderful people there, some of whom have become firm friends. I always enjoy rediscovering this beautiful part of Somerset (near Cheddar). Wedmore seems to be populated by many resourceful, talented, committed and loyal people, who are wonderful at pulling together and working as a team, in order to make something extraordinary happen. I look forward to catching up with some of them next week. The programme is made up of many of my favourite songs/arias…see you there!
